Lipstick Love: the Reds

In honor of our utter love and devotion to lipstick, we thought we would start a series highlighting a few of our lipstick favorites in various shade ranges. Today, we thought we would start off with the classic- a nice bold red lip.

It would be hard to have a chat with makeup lovers about red lipstick without mentioning the absolute makeup stalwarts among MAC’s lipstick offerings, Ruby Woo and Russian Red. While very different, these two shades of red are both recognized classics, and flatter a variety of skin tones and makeup looks. These shades, as well as MAC’s Lady Danger, an orangey red perfect for summer, are some of my favorites. Below are a few other fantastic reds.

Nars Gipsy

The sheerest of the bunch, this red was one of the first in my collection, and is perfect for newbies to makeup, or those who want to toy with color without going too bold. Because of its sheer and glossy formula, it is not the most long-lasting lipstick, but is easy to reapply and adds a gorgeous and colorful sheen to the lips.

Nars Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte

Part of the Nars Audacious Lipstick range, this lipstick is opaque and bold. In a stunning deep red color, this lipstick is not matte but nevertheless has good lasting power. I love this formula and would recommend checking out the wide shade range to find your favorites.

Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 01

A bright and true red, this lip makes a statement. This liquid lip is one of the better formulas I have tried, very long lasting but not over-drying.

My favorite of the bunch, both in texture and color, this liquid lip is comfortable and easy to wear. With a pointed doe foot applicator, application is a breeze, and the texture is thin and almost wet feeling, rather than thick and drying or mousse-like. This armani formula is my favorite for a liquid lip, as I find most liquid lips drying and even unflattering on the lips.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about a few of my favorite red lips, and I’d love to hear about yours!
